Innovation Development
Innovation Development is an intellectual property company specialising
in patenting and licensing of patented technology.
One of the principal founders of Innovation Development was the
patents and licensing manager for Swedish Match, responsible for
the licensing of output of the R&D department, which had been
working on a diverse range of technologies, from blood testing and
diagnosis, to new compounds having a synthetic cooling effect. The
technologies were successfully licensed to Procter &Gamble,
Unilever, and Sterling Organics.
Since then Innovation has been instrumental in the realisation
of a number of significant licensing contracts for its clients,
particularly in the oil and gas sector to BP, Weatherford Lamb and
Reda / Sclumberger.
In addition to creating value for clients from licensing, usually
on a consultancy basis, Innovation has also acquired technologies
or signed royalty sharing agreements in oil well technologies, UV
sensing and linear motors.
Innovation also comprises a patenting unit under the name of Hillgate
Patent Services (www.hgps.co.uk).
This unit provides patent drafting, patent and trademark prosecution
and general advice on intellectual property matters. In 1994 Innovation
acquired Technology International Exchange (TIE) a technology transfer
consultancy.
Innovation is also the lead exploitation partner in two European
research projects, each worth over €3 million. Epi-spark has
recently completed and combined an on-line patents manager with
an on-line IPR legal query function (www.bmtech.co.uk/epi-spark/).
Wisper (http://www.bmtproject.net/wisper)
is a patent search project which provides enhanced searching and
interface for SME users.
Innovation’s expertise lies in patenting and licensing of
patented technology. Areas of expertise and experience are in consumer
and medical products (personal care, fine chemicals, uv detectors,
diagnostics), oil and gas technologies, environmental technologies
and waste management (specifically organic waste processing), and
in information technology.
Future Plans
Innovation and QED have complimentary skills and resources. The
acquisition of QED will effectively add to Innovation’s existing
licensing activity and the combined group will have greater resources
to take on larger IP exploitation tasks.
